En Peire, per mon chantar bel {PC 453,1}

Information

DOM Supl1 Uc de Manzat et Peire Cardenal; échange de coblas [PilletC et Frank 453,1]; EW Poe 1998 (Kzoo) "The specific arguments in favor of Peire de Maensac's authorship of this piece are: 1) we know that such a troubadour existed, which cannot be said of Uc de Maensac; 2) we know that he was a joglar, which Peire Cardenal was not; 3) we know that he composed coblas de solatz, which Peire Cardenal did not; 4) we know that he moved in a circle of poets who were constantly making innuendoes about one another's sexual conquests and defeats. The balance of the evidence indicates that Peire de Maensac was the author of the stanza of response to En Peire, per mon chantar bel. In eliminating Cardenal from the rubric and moving de Maensac next to the initial p., we are left with an unidentified Uc. This could have been Uc de la Bacalaria, Uc de Mataplana, Uc Brunenc, Uc de Saint Circ, Uc de Pena, or another, lesser-known poet of that name. For our purposes, it does not matter which."
