ARTFL/Taylor 1977 1180-1225. Peirol, Troubadour of Auvergne. Ed. S. C. Aston. Cambridge, 1953 PC 3330 P55 1953 MAIN; Pérol, comm Prondines, arr Clermont (Aston p3n2); ca 1189 {PC 399,29} is the first poem that can be dated with relative certainty (Aston p3n4), and there is evidence to show that Peirol was active at least as early as 1190 (despite Jeanroy "fl. 1199 onward"); Diez 1180 is at least five years too early, Boudet's hypothesis of 1169 is "altogether improbable" (Aston p7); client de Dauphin d'Auvergne [born ca. 1150, ruled 1169-1234, noble patron of Peirol, Peire de Maensac, Perdigon, Uc de St Circ]; he left the court (banished or dismissed by Dalfi, acc to vida, bec. of his love for the sister of his protector) some time after 1194, but remained in contact with Dalfi and apparently continued to fulfil his normal functions at court ca. 1194-ca. 1202, and thereafter wandered from court to court, e.g., court of Vienne (Vianes; cf. #13, #20), and court of Blacatz in Italy [cf. #26-#27], etc.; died shortly after visiting the Holy Land and Jerusalem and composing #28 after his return (probably 1221, perhaps 1222); DOM Supl1 Pérols (Puy-de-D [not in Dico communes]), ca. 1180-1225; GRLMA VI.2 E #5300 sirv 1221; GRLMA VI.2 E #5632 1 chanson de croisade {366,29} (1189); GRMLA II.1.7:191 (1) Pérols, comm Prondines, arr Cl-Ferrand, ou moins probablement (2) Pérol, comm St-Priest-des-Champs, arr Riom, Cantal [B-S #129 p305]; fl. ca 1180-1225 [Diez]; from 1190 [Aston, edn]; from 1199 [Jeanroy]; BS 305n1 né vers 1160; Rivière 1974:3 né v.1160 près de Rochefort-Montagne; participa à la 5e croisade, mort v. 1225; BEdT 1999/07/27 generazione 3= 1170-1210;
